Legend has it that one night Yací, the moon, descended to Earth, taking the form of a woman and illuminating the silvery rivers. As she wandered through the lush jungle, she was startled by the presence of a dangerous jaguar. Fortunately, an elderly Guarani man who happened to be passing by saved Yací's life by scaring the feline away. In gratitude, the moon appeared in his dreams and, as an offering, gave him an unknown plant. Its leaves, when roasted and ground, would make a delicious infusion. Thus was born yerba mate, a healthy beverage to revitalize the body and share with others.
